Old Montauk Highway
MARTOS is providing the structural design services for the construction of a new two-story, single-family home with full basement. The total square footage of the home including basement and garage is approximately 8,000 square feet with approximately 5,000 square feet of finished space. The construction will consist of concrete spread footings and basement walls supporting wood framed bearing walls and floor framing. Due to a significant number of wall transfers and window walls, supplemental steel framing will be provided as needed. To provide lateral stability to the structure, standard plywood sheathed shear walls will be used with supplemental Simpson Strong Walls and steel moment frames as required. All attempts will be made to use standard wood framing methods over heavier steel framing.
The structure also contains several concrete wall elements that will be exposed. These elements will be used as structural members to support gravity and lateral loads. MARTOS is currently providing guidance in the specifications for the concrete to obtain the desired architectural finishes. The design will feature several terraces on the second floor and a large terrace at the roof.
